Speaking up for Preston

Preston's MP should keep it local

Written by Mark Jewell and published in Lancashire Evening Post on Tue 25th Mar 2008

In the commons debate on post office closures Preston's MP, Mark Hendrick, complained about Liberal Democrats campaigning against Labour axing one in five post offices.

We collected more than 1,350 petition signatures from post offices across Preston. These are being sent to Downing Street together with more than than 60,000 other signatures nationwide. I have also personally written to the Post Offices consultation team, opposing the closures in Preston.

Our current MP is prepared to support an Early Day Motion against post office closures in Hyndburn, but voted against a suspension of the Government's post office closure programme.

Perhaps he should take a leaf out of the Liberal Democrat's book and start representing local communities?
