Preston folk need 'ambitious' tax cuts

People in Preston need money in their pockets now. LibDems want to cut tax by 4p in the pound.

Inflation is at its highest for years and people across Preston are struggling to make ends meet. They need money in their pockets now and cutting income tax will give residents and our local economy a boost at a time when it is desperately needed.

Liberal Democrats are demanding that low and middle income earners get a tax cut right now and propose a cut in income tax of 4p in the pound. This would be paid for by closing loopholes used by the wealthiest to avoid paying tax and by increasing tax on the most polluting activities.

Mark Jewell said, "This is simple, costed and urgently needed - both for our economy and our environment.

Commenting on Labour and Tory plans Mark added, "We hear talk of tax cuts emerging from Downing Street, but they are likely to be small and short term."

"Funded through borrowing, the money will have to be paid back later. So it's meagre tax cuts today, giant tax rises tomorrow from Brown."

"Meanwhile the Conservatives want a piffling incentive for businesses to take on new workers that won't put a penny in the pocket of a single family in Preston. Neither package comes close to what's needed".
