Preston Councillor, Mark Jewell is calling for a commitment to Keep the National Football Museum in Preston for another year at least.

He said, "The employees of the NFM have been told they have a job until April 2010. It would be crazy to close the museum in a World Cup Year because of a lack of commitment to continue funding the museum in Preston before it moves to Manchester.

He added, "This commitment must come from the Lancashire bid of Lancashire County Council, Preston City Council and UCLan and even Urbis to identify the funds to Keep the National Football Museum open in Preston during 2010. Despite the disappointment of the NFM going to the Urbis centre in Manchester, we have an opportunity to keep the best football museum in the world open in Preston when there will be added interest in our National sport with the World Cup. It would be a missed opportunity if the museum in Preston closed this year.

A bold statement to this effect from the trustees would give the employees some security whilst the NFM would continue to be an attraction for Preston.
