    Local campaigner, Mark Jewell says Vince speaks for us all.

    Mark recalls when Vince came to Preston. "I had just started in local politics and Vince joined me canvassing in Larches. He offered some great advice on the casework we had collected. The following year I was elected as the City Councillor for Larches.

    Local Liberal Democrats are fighting against school funding cuts in Preston.

    Recent figures from the National Union of Teachers show that schools in Lancashire will lose £67,726,441, in real terms, by 2019. This amounts to an average loss of £440 a year for each child. That is the equivalent of 1,841 teachers being cut from Lancashire schools. Ashton Community Science College would lose over half a million pounds by 2019 equivalent to 14 teachers being cut.(source: schoolcuts.org.uk)

    Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson Norman Lamb announced plans today for a 'New Beveridge Group' of independent health experts to consider the case for a dedicated NHS and care tax.

    Speaking to party members at the Liberal Democrat Autumn Conference in Brighton, former health minister Norman Lamb called for "honesty and straight talking" on the cash crisis facing the health and care sector, raising the possibility of an extra penny on a new dedicated NHS and care tax. The proposal builds on his previous calls for the introduction of a separate health and care tax which would be marked out on people's payslips.

    Local Liberal Democrats are leading the campaign to save the Star Youth Club with a petition that every local resident can support.

    Ashton Lib Dem campaigner, Mark Jewell, said, "The Star Youth Club is the only Youth Club in the West of Preston. With such severe cuts proposed by County Hall even the Youth zone proposed at the bus station must now be in doubt."
