Tories set to take back kids lunch money

September 1, 2015 11:46 AM

Children at St Andrews Mark outside St Andrews CECE and Sacred Heart Catholic primary schools may soon have to pay for their own school lunches.

A year ago, the Liberal Democrats introduced free school meals for primary school children. This resulted in over one million additional children eating a hot healthy meal at lunchtime.

Local campaigner, Mark Jewell explained,

"Studies show that a healthy lunchtime meal helps improve pupils' concentration and performance in the classroom raising overall standards. That is why the Liberal Democrats fought tooth and nail to get this through in coalition.

Now the Tories are set to scrap this policy leaving parents to find £400 per year for each child.

Instead of investing to give children the best start in life, in less than 6 months in government the Tories are turning up at the school gates to steal
their lunch money.
