The Fylde Liberal Democrats have welcomed news that the government have temporarily banned fracking.

Fylde's Liberal Democrat candidate, Mark Jewell, commented, "At face value this is welcome news, but I am sceptical of the governments comments going into a General Election."

Mark has consistently voted against fracking as a former Lancashire County Councillor.

He recalls, "I worked with Cllr Bill Winlow, the former LibDem leader on Lancashire County Council, who develop a policy against fracking that was eventually accepted as national policy.

Mark added, "It was only recently that an earthquake tremour, from the Preston New Road site was felt for miles around. The governments decision for a temporary suspension on fracking is testament to the tireless campaigners at the Preston New Road site.

"Climate change is an emergency that needs to be dealt with now. We must focus on renewable energy rather than being distracted by more fossil fuels. That is why we need a permanent ban on all fracking."
